Jewels in the Sky

Autumn LeavesGlistening jewels coat
the tips of trees
which light the skies
with lofty ease.
Priceless Rubies, Topaz stones,
and Mandarin Garnets
in orange tones.

Each will be sold in silent bidding
with votes harnessed
from a passing crowd
of wide, uplifted eyes
whose currency, only fitting,
is to be pleased-
sometimes out loud!

Later these gems
whose fiery flames
burned without heat
and singed none but their stems,
these dazzling comets
will fade and fall
down to earthly feet
whose toes will curl
deep into the ground
and stoke the coals
for next years round.

Mandarin Garnet
A Mardarin Garnet.

  1. Hi there, I always see your blog blogrolled by my friendies but came via your directory bidding @ BE at last…

Love the combo of jewels and the photo. I do that often and at least have done in the past… poem or prose poetry and my artwork.

Really, really sincere and beautiful. I’m glad I found your site at last (or found my way here)…

  2. Some of the colors are astonishing, aren’t they, especially when the light shines through the leaves! I’d never heard of a mandarin garnet before.

  3. Thank you, Noel. But these recent photos are from “flickr”, where others share theirs. My camera broke a few weeks ago and I plan to replace it. However, many of the photos on previous posts here are mine. It was nice to learn you are also a photographer.

  4. David,

To say that I just enjoy visiting your website. It is like talking to a friend who has a lot to say that makes me rethink about what is the illusion we call “life”, the feelings of “oneness”, the power of seeing beyond the human eye.

I cited part of your poem: {Jewels in the Sky} in my youtube channel, and put the address to your webpage, so people come read the full poem; and all the good things you have here and want to share with us.

    Be blessed,
